Position/station: FieldOfficer – Livelihoods (Garissa)

DutyStation: Garissa
Basedin Garissa and with 70% field travel in remote and harsh localities, the holderwill work closely with the pastoralist communities targeted by the AdaptationLearning Program in Garissa County and will support planning by communities andtheir model community adaptation approaches as per their adaptation plans inline with the objectives and approaches of ALP. The Livelihoods field officerwill support ALP target groups develop sustainable livelihoods throughpromotion of climate resilient livelihood strategies and diversification asadaptation options.
Responsibilities
Capacity development of ALP target community groups in business development skills Capacity building of the ALP communities on natural resources management with emphasis on range lands rehabilitation for sustainable livelihoodsParticipate in PSPs and dissemination of advisories to the ALP target communities Identify support needed by the ALP target groups to implement CBA strategiesSupport ALP target groups by creating linkages with the relevant service providers Providing on-going support and training for ALP community groups engaged in new and improved Livelihoods activities Participate in conducting Training Needs Assessments for ALP community groups in order to identify areas of training in livelihood activitiesSupport ALP target groups by providing linkages with the relevant service providers QUALIFICATIONS:
Education,experience and competencies:
You will have a minimum qualification of auniversity degree, in a relevant discipline such as rural development,community development or agriculture and livelihoods. The candidate must havepractical experience in community facilitation and working with diverse teams,and have people’s skills, resilience, flexibility, good communication skills,and experience working in difficult environments.
S/he must be an experienced and mature officer,with at least three years’ working experience and capable of working largelyindependently. You are expected to possess knowledge of and experience insustainable livelihood approaches and participatory planning, especially inbusiness development and management. In addition the right candidate will havebasic computing skills.

Basedin Garissa and with 70% field travel in remote and harsh localities, the holder will work closely with the pastoralistcommunities targeted by the Adaptation Learning Program in Garissa County. S/he will support planning by communities andtheir model community adaptation approaches as per their adaptation plans. Theofficer will support the community groups to protect their livelihood assets tominimize risks in their livelihood strategies as well as development andstrengthening of community DRR systems.
Responsibilities
Facilitate the identification and prioritization of household/individual CBA strategies by community groups.Contribute to institutional mapping exercise to identify local actors and organisations in adaptationParticipate in facilitation of regular planning and coordination meetings among partners working at the community levelSupport ALP target communities in DRR planning processParticipate in strengthening climate related disaster early warning systems in collaboration with the local governments and other stakeholders Participate in capacity assessment and capacity development planning for the project stakeholders Capacity building of the ALP communities on range lands rehabilitation and management Support ALP communities strengthen customary institutions relevant in management of community disaster risk reduction systems Support ALP target community groups identify and implement livelihood protection activities in a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach Identify support needed by the ALP target groups to implement CBA strategiesSupport ALP target groups by providing linkages with the relevant service providers Capacity building of the ALP communities on environmental conservation and natural resources managementProvide supports and mentoring of ALP community DRR committees through trainings and cross learning sessionsQUALIFICATIONS:
Education,experience and competencies:
S/he will have a minimum qualification of auniversity degree, in a relevant discipline such as rural development, livestock/rangemanagement or agriculture and livelihoods, with 4 years’ experience incommunity development. The candidate must have practical experience incommunity facilitation and working with diverse teams and have people’s skills.
S/he must be an experienced and mature officer;capable of working largely independently and with experience in participatoryplanning. S/he should be sensitive to cultural dynamics and have strong gendermainstreaming skills, with well-developed writing and communication skills
Computer Skills: Basic computing skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, andOutlook; and, advanced internet searching skills
Integrity: Works with trustworthiness andintegrity
Resilience/Adaptability and flexibility: Abilityto operate effectively under difficult circumstances
