The CSDI Team
Abdi Zeila Dubow is the Head of Programmes at CSDI. He has been working in the arid and semiarid lands of Kenya throughout his professional life. He has an MSc in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University, specialising in GIS (Geographic Information System) management of desert landscapes. He has been working on ways to manage and control an invasive alien species that has colonised huge swathes of lands in Kenya's drylands, prosopis juliflora. He has a number of publications, ranging from GIS assessment and monitoring of invasive species to agroforestry systems in arid landscapes. He previously worked as a project officer with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Nairobi and thereafter with a consultancy firm. He can be reached at azeila@csdikenya.org.
Aden Sheikh Hassan is the Programmes Officer, Partnerships. He is a diplomatic relations expert with wide ranging experience in Kenya and the Greater Horn of Africa. He has an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Nairobi. He has written extensively on land management issues in the region and is a regular contributor to social science journals. He is responsible for programmes implementation at CSDI and has overall leadership in media liaisons. He can be reached at mailto:ashassan@csdikenya.org.
Abednego Kiwia is the Programmes Officer, Trainings. He holds a BSc. in Forestry and a Masters degree in agroforestry from Moi University and he has published over 20 scientific articles. For the last 10 years he has worked with both local and international NGOs. In 2003, he was the team leader of an ICRAF project funded by the European Union, to conduct a baseline survey in western Kenya on agro-biodiversity and sensitize communities in Siaya and Vihiga districts on the role of agroforestry in agro-biodiversity conservation. In 2005 while working for the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) he, also, led a team of experts from the Forest Department, Green Belt Movement, Nairobi Water and Sewage Company to assess and design holistic approaches of rehabilitating the Aberdares Forest and the role of agroforestry interventions in improving livelihoods and landscapes of the communities living around the Aberdares Forest Ecosystem. He has coordinated and participated in many international workshops, the recent ones being the first global workshop on forestry education, Seventh Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), held at UNEP HQS, Gigiri, Nairobi between 17th – 28th Oct. 2005 and the Challenge Programme on water and Food (CPWF) workshop on the Potential for payment for environmental services (PES): approaches to contribute to equitable and sustainable management of soil and water in upper catchments hosted by the Agroforestry Network (AfNet) at ICRAF and Hilton Hotel, Nairobi on 27th - 29th June, 2006. Mr. Abednego possesses good computer analytical tools, including economic analysis. He has wide experience in baseline and evaluation studies and in the dissemination of information to desired target groups.
Dr Joseph Gonjobo Sukunatu &
Dr Joseph Gonjobo Sukunatu is the Programmes Officer, Livestock Development. He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from the University of Nairobi and is a registered veterinarian by the Kenya Veterinary Board. He has had previous experiences working with livestock organisations such as VSF Germany, CIFA and KENDAT in various parts of Kenya and Ethiopia. He can be reached at sukunatu@csdikenya.org
